movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

It's filmmaking at its best.

We have differing views on the film.

While it was an average fight film, the story was formulaic, too predictable and the acting, minus Nolte, was not great.

Sure, Hardy did a good job, but considering that he is an MMA fighter, it wasn't too much of a stretch for him to play a brooding guy with a chip on his shoulder.

Solomon Kane. Not too bad. It's like Season of the Witch, only a good deal better. Maybe a 6 to a 7.

Has that finally gotten a US release? I've been wanting to see it for ages...read a lot of Solomon Kane stories as a kid (and an excellent Marvel comics adaptation in the 80s. The newer ones aren't bad either).

Yeah, I picked a copy of one of the newer comics, too, a little while back (Mmmm, Jan 2009, Oh, has it been that long? --Allie, Guevera, Stewart #4). And I've been wanting to see the movie since I a saw the trailer some months ago. The fim's looks is quite a bit like that comic I picked up, and that seems like a good thing.

Yeah, I watched it on Amazon Streaming...one of their watch it now before it hits theaters offers, so not cheaply. But, I wanted to see it, and a person could easily spend that much going to the theater, so...

I Spit on Your Grave (2010) - 5/10 - never saw the original but was an over the top film. Very violent, brutal and graphic. Shock gore porn. Sarah Butler did a decent job

A Sepraration - 9/10 - wonderful film. Lots of lies, deceit and manipulation. Fantastic filn

Dark Horse - 7.25/10 - I really like Solondz and I really wished it was a stronger film but unfortunately it wasn't. Typical dark, depressing comedy from him and more of his trademark harsh lines spoken to other characters on screen. Bright spot in the film - Jordan Gelber was absolutely phenomenal in his role.

Anonymous - Too boring. Turned it off after fifteen minutes.
The Dictator - Not funny. Turned it off after ten minutes.
Lord of the Flies, 1990 - 8/10. Gotta put this on your to-do bucket list.
Jesus Christ Superstar - 9/10. If you like musicals then this is a must.
Lockout - 4/10. I liked Besson's 5th Element. IDK WTH happened here.
Contagion - 7/10. Fomiiiiiiites! R-naaaaughts.

Bernie

Pretty good. Maybe a 7.

Seems like I give just about everything a 7. Oh well, that's me I guess. What do you do?

It sort of reminded me a little of bits we've seen of Hickory Never Bleeds. I'm really looking forward to seeing HNB. Hope I get to.

Keep an eye out for Sonny Davis's parts. He had me laughin.

Hey, there's more interview material during the credit scroll too.

Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter (3d) - 6/10

Couldn't make the times for the 2d version, so caught the 3d one. As usual, I found the 3d to be very ho-hum and not worth the extra expense.

The film itself was pretty entertaining, in a goofy action way. Obviously was not expecting a biography experience. Got my dollar's worth. Wouldn't be able to sit through it again. Not even for the train sequence, which was probably the best part of the film.

The Raid: Redemption - 9/10 for a martial arts film, 6/10 for just a film film.
The action sequences are pretty bad@ss, but some of it gets just a little silly.
Looking forward to the 2013 sequel.

Lawless -- Tom Hardy is brilliant, but surprisingly, it is Shia LeBouf who carries this movie. Their characters are great, almost a yin-yang to each other. The setup and build-up are great. The resolution was a bit too hurried for me, but otherwise I really enjoyed this movie. B+!

Watched The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly for the first time last night. Great movie that everyone needs to see at least once IMO, even if it is three hours long.

8.5/10

ParaNorman. Nice animation and 3D. 3/10. I was going to give it a 2, but I'll grudgingly bump it up a point. We should have went to Lawless instead.

Tower Heist - 7/10 - average comedy, nothing too exciting

Religious - 6/10 - interesting look at religious views, just wish Maher would have kept his political views out of it

The Disappearance of Alice Creed - 6.5/10 - was okay, was more excited by the trailer

Got bored last night. Decided to watch some Troma smut on cable On Demand.

Fertilize the Blaspheming Bombshell (1990) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099562/ - 2/10
A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell (1990) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102569/ - 3/10
And that extra point there was for the effort the filmmakers put into their claymation Ray Harryhausen-esque mutant/dinosaurs.

Other 1990 films for production quality context comparison purposes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990_films

I wonder (and I'm pretty sure I'm right) if the production company (ahem) filmmakers for these two, and other Troma gems, just made whateverthehell they wanted and then sold the rights to Troma for chump change since they couldn't do much else with them themselves.
