The Unofficial Song of the Day Thread

Before anyone points this out- Yes, I did only start to like this song after it was featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One.

Still, 'tis an awesome song however I found it ;)

I was so surprised when i heard this in HP. Never had i dreamed Cave and Potter would collide.

But Nick Cave is a brilliantly creative artist and hopefully this makes more people aware of his presence.

Since u like the song, Nick, check out his previous albums. Perhaps the best way to get into him would be to start with the Murder Ballads.

...and I'll keep to the one song per day rule, and not post my favorite Nick Cave song until tomorrow :-D

As threatened, my favorite Nick Cave song ever:

Video by the inimitable Anton Corbijn. The song Red Right Hand does come in a close second.

I first listened to the Dig Lazarus Dig album when it was doing the rounds and the people on Radio 2 were telling me it was good.

I wasn't crazy about it and slightly regretted buying it so I ignored his back catalogue.

But 'O, Children' has sucked me in so I might have to take another look. To be honest I think it might be the contrast between his voice and that of the female choir that I like in that song because I'm not wild about your favourite one either Josh (sorry!).

Like i said, try Murder Ballads. There are a couple of duets in there with women and the pacing is slower and the songs are more melodious, much like O Children, compared to his other work. That's why i recommended it.

I used to really dislike Nick Cave (though always had a soft spot for the Birthday Party), but I loved a lot of music inspired by him (Tindersticks come to mind). Over the years I've grown to like him a lot more. So no worries, Nick, I used to HATE that song too ;) I agree that Ernest's suggestion is a good place to start.

Escaping Nick Cave for a second I've had this on my iPod for a while but listened to it properly for the first time today and I really like it. Apparently it was on Gossip Girl (my favourite show) but don't let that put you off...

Not only do you get snow, tight white pants and flashy glasses

Freddy hits the ball out of the park with this vocal.

Once a rude boy, always a rude boy

Know it sounds funny
But, I just can't stand the pain
Girl, I'm leaving you tomorrow
Seems to me girl
You know I've done all I can
You see I begged, stole, and I borrowed! (yeah)
