Alaska themed films, prep for a shoot...

Check out 'Into the Wild'. A good movie with good cinematography. I've haven't shot a film in the snow yet, let alone in Alaska, but I'd imagine lighting will be difficult with all that bright, white, and reflective snow. Then again you could use that to your advantage.

    Looking for a good tripod

To The Artist Weight is not a problem. In fact, the heavier the more stable. As far as height goes, it would be nice to have a tripod that can get to my height of 72". What I mean by the tripod laying flat is this. The legs should be independently adjustable. If I want to go flat, I can. If I...

    Looking for a good tripod

I can raise the budget for the tripod another hundred or two. I apologize for not being specific about the tripod earlier in this thread. I'm looking for a tripod that can be raised taller than me (72") and also lay flat on the ground. I've seen them before, legs that can extend out...

    Looking for a good tripod

I'm looking for a sturdy, metal, and smooth moving tripod for my Sony z1u. I've got a few hundred bucks saved up for a tripod. My old one had a plastic head so everytime I'd go for a slow pan or tilt, or any movement for that matter it would be bumpy and shaky.

Thanks everyone for all the recommendations! I was also looking at a series called Master Shots vol. 1 & 2. Has anyone here ever read those? Also, has anyone read Save the Cat for screenwriting?

recommened books on directing, cinematography and screenwriting

Fellow indietalk members, what book(s) would you recommend on directing? On cinematography? On screenwriting? I've done a fair amount of research on Amazon and Google for some good books, but I trust you guys and gals the most with recommendations on books. I know there are many more areas of...

    Terrible young actors!

What everyone's said is good advice. You're young, you don't have Hollywood at your finger tips. Use what you have, 15 year old actors, your house, the park, etc. Write something a little goofy and fun. Don't take yourself too seriously...yet. Once you get older and wiser and have more...

Lights Of The Sky - 1.5 page short story

Yeah, the VFX and Sound FX would have to be top notch. I also believe, though, that the acting would really hold this type of film together. I would have an actor react to something that doesn't even exist, and they would be 14! Plus I'm no VFX/Sound guy. There are some great ones on this site...

Lights Of The Sky - 1.5 page short story

I completely agree with you. Film is a visual medium, I always tell people that and thanks for reading mine of the very few! I should clarify what I meant by the colors. The lights were suppose to stand out from the darkness; colorful like the rainbow for instance. Blues, greens, reds, yellows...

Lights Of The Sky - 1.5 page short story

Thanks for reading it! Yeah I guess it's a treatment. I've been working on it everyday since I posted it here and have a lot more to add. I'm thinking this could be a short film, and maybe in the future, a feature film :)

Lights Of The Sky - 1.5 page short story

You mean the actual lights protruding from the trees or were you not able to visualize the story from my writing? I myself haven't figured out what the lights would represent, let alone what's behind the trees. the story came from a nightmare I had, nothing makes sense. Thats where the...
