Tinalera's April Fool's Freaky Funk Fantastic Film Fest

I don't think The Samurai's going to be ready... I'm not sure it will ever be finished, my current project has just totally overridden any desire I had to finish off that film...

Still I'll probably post whatever rough cut I have on Vimeo password protected so that people here can have a wee lookie.

I'm out. The whole moving out shebang left me penny less, actor-less, and location-less...Now that I think about it, I could shoot myself in a bathtub cutting my wrists, with a deep monologue V.O. and head to Sundance.

You might have something there lol.

That's alright-I can understand those who may not be able to do it-or just to do what they have so far.

Like I said I'll be showing mine (without or without *Shudder*) musical score-hoping after this weekend I get it. It nothing else a deadline forced me to actually "get to work" and I've reshot worked it and although it's a similar story to "Face Value" it's also different.

If I end up being one of the only ones showing, I won't be crushed-I think even if people got SOME stuff done, even if they don't show it, but made progress, that's the main thing :)

I don't have as much as I had hoped, but I've got progress on that live event footage. You won't be alone, but you might be the only 'film' ;)

Hey, progress is progress-nice I won't be alone ;)

Like I said, I am waiting (still) on my score. If it isn't here by Friday, then I will post the video part, and show the completed package once it get done :)

If we can get the end credit song together this Wednesday, we'll be premiering MIXED MESSAGES. If not, sometime in April. Guess it's ready when it's ready.

:(

I'm as devastated as you are.

I'd love to get a cut done (I've done a rough one that I'm just not that happy with) but I didn't get enough coverage at the time and, because I was operating the camera as well as directing, the focus slipped out at points and that's meant that getting a decent continuous cut together has been a nightmare. I just don't think that the finished product is going to be good enough to merit your time... :(

Even in the worst case scenario is still a bit of experience for both of us.

And I'm sure you're being modest.

And my third argument: Please.. come on.. Apart from the friend's degree short I'm working on, two of the projects I was looking forward to were cancelled and the other decided to break all contact with me for no apparant reason. I'm sat here pushing 'send resume' to absolute crap on mandy, and praying I'll get a reply instead of losing out to idiots playing 3 chords on a keyboard that everyone thinks is great just because their bedroom happens to be in Los Angeles.

You can take your time with it, I just really want to see that Samurai costume and put a massive GONGGGGG over the title sequence.

It's all about progress here-if it's not finished, that's fine, I still would like to see it! The fact you made progress on it, like any of us, speaks volumes. :)

It is your choice, but I assure you for me it would be quite good enough to merit my time :)

EDIT: A GONG? Oh, come on Nick, please let Harp use the GONG! :D I have to hear that!

I hear you! I think if we modify it a bit to say (and this goes for anyone) don't feel so much that it has to be done BY April 1st, but know that from April 1st onward you can post-so if it's later in April so be it.

I agree, when it's ready, its ready :)

Well, looks like my music score will be delayed until later in April, my composer does taxes and she's swamped right now-I will STILL be posting April 1st the footage I have.

I thought about using the "smartsounds" on Adobe Elements, but they don't seem to fit what I am doing. I suppose I could get a couple of plastic storage and containers and do some impomptu bongos! ;)

The trouble is is that the film that I've just shot is much, much better and therefore my desire to get The Samurai finished has really dwindled...

That said it's a good exercise in self discipline and I intend to see it through.

You dressed somebody up in full Samurai armour. If this diamond doesn't appear, it's an injustice!

I am thinking of just linking the footage to this thread, as opposed to opening a new one in the screening room (unless that's everyone wants to do)

I shall be posting my soundless footage tomorrow-when I get my composition I will repost it-but I think even without sound it tells a decent story :)

LAME-SAUCE!!!

Confession: this hasn't exactly been my top-priority. Hell, I've spent the last month trying to overcome a technical difficulty that stopped me from finalizing my feature (problem conquered). Anyway, I knew I wouldn't have this project done in time for this Funky Fresh Film Fest, but I wanted to show you all something.

More technical difficulties. My computer doesn't like old-school technology. I can't get it to recognize my miniDV camera, connected via firewire. So, I tried a couple work-arounds, just to show ya'll some random footage. In the end, I dumped some footage to DVD, via my cheap DVD recorder. Thought I could mess with that, but it's completely whack.

I recorded an impromptu vocal narration, while watching the footage I was dumping. But I can't seem to find a way to edit the video that I put on DVDR.

Anyway, the good news is that all of the footage is in good shape. No signs of deterioration. As soon as I figure out how to get my computer to recognize this camera, I don't envision any problems digitizing.

A couple random pics I was able to pull out:

Grandma on the left. Mom on the right (she had been affectionately dubbed "Ewok"), newborn infant center.

Two sub-adult males share some good fruit. And by "share", I mean that the more dominant male (foreground) keeps on taking the sweet fruit from his good buddy.

I'm looking forward to this one, I'm going to my girlfriend's home in India in the summer and am going to be seeing some Macaque monkeys myself.

Do you need a bit of background music for the documentary? It shouldn't take me long to put something together, if you're interested that is. :)

Adorable, C Funk! I don't know if I ever told you this, but my first obsession when I was a kid was with chimpanzees. I wanted to be Jane Goodall when I grew up :) (and yes I know those are monkeys not chimps).

Now on to your format issue. IIRC, the .vob format is basically just an mpeg file, so all you need to do is rename the files to .mpg and your NLE should recognize them. It may still be a little buggy, but if you're patient you should be able to get it edited.

Ha. You tricked me, Cracker. I kept clicking your second image above to PLAY, but that white triangle is part of the image. April Fools on me! : )

Monkeys rule. I used to be in a band called Thee Monkey Butlers. We wore wrestling masks on stage, but never flung our poo at the crowd. Probably should have. ;)
