watch VFX Test - Desert Explosion

The camera shudders at the same time as the explosion. Depending on the distance, there should be a slight delay.

Look at this. Its far bigger than your explosion and there is almoat no camera shake.

I knew I forgot about something! Both the shake, and the explosion should be delayed. I still matched everything up, with my mind on fixing it later, but I guess I forgot...

That's really the only thing I see. The actual plume looks pretty good. Pretty standard for an high explosive round. Glad to see you didn't put a giant fire ball in there.:)

Is the rest of the footage real??

Caught my eye and looked very effective.

Might be because of a bit of misdirection, maybe? I was expecting the explosion to be shooting up from either of the two mountain valleys... and it came from an unexpected place.

At any rate... with two very defining mountain features, it wasn't where i thought it would be and so when it quickly hit, I was like woah!

I will post the breakdown soon. Not much to see, but still, Demo Reel filler.
It's actually a picture I found on Google under Mojave Desert. I replaced the plain blue sky with cloudy one, composited the plume in, added the camera movement, and then the CRT look with a venesian blinds transition, and some color correction. Lastly, the text and timecode.

@Zensteve:  I thought about placing the plume behind the mountains, but the explosion looked much better where it is. At first I was going to use another background, but that valley ended up looking much better.

Ok, bringing the war to the U.S. are we.:) JK

There might be some more techy stuff you could do that I don't know about, but I think it look spretty good.

Thanks Murdock!
Well, as much as we hate to admit it, war does look good on film. And I love deserts.
