Sundance?

Ok, so its worth the fee to say we entered. Production quality is great. Its the wrong genre for this particular festival but we have some amazing features to our project. Fingers crossed.

Here is the question. Any advice if we do get accepted? Do's and dont's while there? How do you get people to watch and vote for your project?

Thank you all for your help!

I´ve never had been in a festival like that, I´m sorry I can´t give you any advice but Congrats!!!! I would just say that that´s amazing and you should enjoy it. Where can I see you work?

No, saying you entered means nothing in the real world. Anyone can
enter and over 8,000 do each year. But my fingers are crossed for you,
too. good luck!

If you do get accepted you have several months to ride the wave.
Publicize like crazy. The issuing of awards is done by the Sundance
Jury. They vote based on watching the movies and they watch all the
movies in competition - you get them to vote for your project by
having a great film.

Sorry to be confusing. Its worth the fee to me to say we entered. I realize its not worth anything to anyone else unless it gets accepted. I believe we have a great project especially for our budget and current experience.

I was under the assumption that you had to convince the judges to watch your film even after it is accepted.

Any idea how long it will be after submission till we get word on acceptance?

As far as winning awards, there's not much you can do, but the more you promote and the more buzz that surrounds your film, the more likely a distributor will take notice and possibly buy your film.

I would recommend trying not to think about when an acceptance letter might come. You'll drive yourself insane, and it could literally be just before official announcements, or even afterwards in the event that a previous selection gets disqualified and they need to replace that spot.

Any way we can see a trailer for your film?

So you're asking if it is worth it to you to say you entered? Only you
know that answer.

Every film in competition is judged. You don't have to convince the
jury to watch your film. Films out of competition aren't judged.

Their official policy (from the website) is to send out announcements
the first week of December.

Seems I was wrong on the amount of submissions. I was looking at
the site and they say they get up to 12,000 submissions.

12.000 submissions, and they take in how many? 10 in each category?? :D

50 dollars times 12.000 submissions.. .that's 600.000 dollars... :D

and most of those money comes from movies that are never heard about again, and will never be shown....

Exactly my thoughts moonshine. The whole what if.

Steve.... I waste more than the entry fee on way more frivolous things guaranteed to go absolutely no where. Most of it is food. Im not rich by any means but to take on the task of a feature and not have some extra cash to enter festivals..... That was probably our smallest expense.

Thanks for the good info. Now I wait, which I am completely comfortable with now that I know there isnt something Im supposed to be doing.

For fifty bucks I'll give you the Zen Seal of Approval© to place on your DVD cover, and make some Tweets plugging your film.

For sixty, I'll praise its worthiness on FaceBook, too.

Lemme hook you up.

You have a movie trailer? I entered mine in the Next or Park City at Midnight categories and I feel I have no chance of making it. Mine is a low budget, campy, cult, dramedy. But like you said, "eh, what the heck".
Already got booted out of the Hollywood Film Fest and have until the end of this week to know if I made the Philly Film Fest. They have a category just for local film makers.
Here's my trailer~http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=EQy_2V776zc
I'm making changes to the trailer this week if you have any suggestions.
if you like it, LIKE my facebookpage. I'd appreciate it. www.facebook.com/theluckyonez Thanks.

We have a production website. Www.goldencirclemovie.com

It isnt meant for promotion of the film just an avenue for friends and family to keep track of our progress.

As far as formats, that is all being handled by our editor.

I was under the understanding that sundance had to premier submissions. So if its submitted but not shown by another festival is it still acceptable? I dont know the answer to that one either.

I believe you can submit and get accepted to other festivals, but as long as you back out of them before they are shown, you can still be accepted at Sundance. The specific rules can be found on their website.

If your film is less than 50mins in duration then it would only qualify for the Shorts category, in which case there are NO restrictions on whether the short has been previously screened at another festival or even released on TV, DVD or the internet. Films longer than 50mins (feature films) have to be world premières for most but not all categories.

Be very careful here!! The submission requirements/specifications for Sundance are on DVD, are very easy to comply with and your editor will be able to handle them no problem but the projection requirements, once accepted, are a whole other kettle of fish. Your editor will NOT be able to produce the projection format required if your film is accepted. You will need a decent budget and the involvement of specialist professionals in order to create a projection copy which the Sundance festival will screen. For example, unless you submit a projection copy on 16mm film (mono optical audio mix required) your sound has to be in a multichannel format. It's a shame that many filmmakers (particularly in the shorts category) get accepted, only to fail at this final step.

It is 90 min long.

The initial submission was on dvd

Two things about going far in Sundance worry me. 1) our type of film (action adventure) is not the norm for this festival. 2) with big names and multi million dollar budgets entering the festival in our category it will be rough to compete.

I heard that they have a low budget recognition only category as well. Since we produced a great feature on a really low budget we may have a better shot here. We would b happy with a simple recognition from them.
