Hey guys! I was just wondering on how close are you with your crew members? Are you the real friendly type of director, or are you the stern "ridley scott"-esque one?

The above could vary on the cast, the one particular actor that needs strict direction. There's many elements, but you can't pre-empt your style.

You'll realize your directorial attributes in your stride.
 
It is my opinion, that at the low-budget level, you will greatly benefit by being nice and friendly. Treat everyone on the set, from the star to volunteer unskilled PA with the same level of respect. Be liberal with "thank you" and praise, but don't be shy to say that something is not exactly the way you envision it. Being nice is not the same as being a push-over.
