Opportunity for filmmakers: Short films scored live and for free

If anyone is stuck in the rut of not being able to find a decent soundtrack at a reasonable price for a new film, then we could help. Last year we pioneered the event Making Tracks, an opportunity for filmmakers to get their work shown in public by leaving soundtrack worries. We are Whirlygig Cinema, an arts initiative in support of up-and-coming filmmaking talent, and for Making Tracks we collaborate with The Cabinet Living Cinema who are film score artists. The films are stripped of any original soundtrack (in most cases) and then re-scored live to an unsuspecting audience. This is all free, and you can get a copy of the new soundtrack afterwards. We were recently part of the London Short Film Festival, and our next event will take place in May. Have a look at our website for more info, and contact us if you would like to get involved!

Yes is it a public event with an audience present (last time we had an audience of over 160), and the band play instruments live on stage while the films are showing on a screen behind them. Most of the scores have never been heard before by anyone apart from the band, not even the filmmaker, which adds an element of risk and makes the event all the more exciting.

I used to put on nights like this back in the day, but never thought to pass the recordings on to the filmmakers... good idea.
