Just joined-need tons of advice lol

I joined this forum because I am looking to learn some video editing techniques as well as find a good software to use to make a film. I recently spent the weekend recording footage for a cheap car challenge styled off of the show Top Gear. But I need help editing as well as a good software to use to make the movie.
