H harmonica44 Feb 28, 2012 #2 Are we talking about when actors occupy about 1 3rd of the shot usually?
LasVegasIRA Feb 28, 2012 #3 Every rule out there is a rule meant to learn, master, then bend and/or break as needed. It should be completely up to you as to whether you want to use it or not, as it's completely an aesthetic choice. harmonica44 said: Are we talking about when actors occupy about 1 3rd of the shot usually? Gonzo_Entertainment Feb 28, 2012 #4 It's A rule of good composition. doesn't mean every shot uses it, but's something you keep in the back of your mind as you frame. Here's an example. The points where the lines intersect are the points the human eye is naturally drawn to. This goes back hundreds of years in painting.

Cracker Funk Feb 28, 2012 #5 I'd say you should use it in every third shot, 2/3rds of the time, all the time. Just kidding. It's a "rule". Learn it. Perfect it. So that you'll know when and why you want to break it.
