How do you mount a sandbag on a lightstand?

I realize this is a bit of a newbie question, but how do heavy sandbags stay on lightstands' legs without rolling off?

I've seen some with clips to attach to the stand's stem, but most sandbags don't have them! What's the deal?

Yep, as Rik points out MADE to rest on a light stand leg. They are one of the best bits of grip gear you can have. In addition to stands, they can stabilize anything, you can stack them to make a super stable resting spot for a camera, they are awesome.
 
Our Australian sand bags (called shot bags or 'shotties') look like this:

They don't fit over anything as easily as the ones that rik describes, but they are smaller, and generally we stick them on the horizontal area of the leg - often the sand falls to either side of the shotbag anyway, giving it the same effect as the ones above.
