How did they do this effect?

In this Lil Wayne video' "Fireman", how did they create the effect where he moves his hands over the candles and they lit up?

My guess it's rewinded footage of him running his hand over lit candles and someone with an air compressor blowing them out as he passes them.

Looks like greenscreened candles over-layed on the scene, sequenced one after the other with a small delay between lighting them. Pretty smooth since they are out of focus tyeing the shot together.

I was coming to that conclusion as well. Probably animated masks. Its a still shot so the candles and the table were probably focused with the rest of the shot and then a masked drawn in those areas to blur the table and the candles. The candle light themselves could be stock footage overlayed onto the candles with some added interactive lighting.

The camera is locked off so that makes it easy to do an animated mask with Adobe Illustrator. May or may not have been done with a green screen as well.
