Hello, From the Bay Area

Hey my name is Phil, I am 26 years old, I currently live in Gilroy, I was born in San Jose and lived there for just about my whole life until 5 years ago when I moved to Gilroy. I am attending Monterey State and majoring in (TAT) film. I have all my General Ed done except for a computer class, and a spanish class, I have started to take introduction classes to film, for example History of film, and intro to scriptwriting. So I am a noob and I found this site on google, and I have been trolling it for the past couple days and decided to sign up because many of you have great knowledge, and seem very friendly.

I also was wondering what everyone thinks would be a good beginner camera? I want to start writing, and making short films to get some experience. I am looking to spend anywhere between $700-900. Thanks

Welcome to indietalk!

And the indie filmmakers favorite cheap camera setup these days is the canon 550d/t2i with an externel sound recorder and mic.

Welcome Grasshopper!

I'm one of the audio guys here.

Welcome! I lived in The Bay Area all my life until I recently moved. I went to George Minor Elementary, its near Santa Teresa HS.

I'm a noob at filmmaking myself. If A DSLR doesn't work for you, try a canon camcorder like the vixia hfs21. It has amazing quality and manual options.

Hello, I know exactly where George minor elementary is, I will check out the camera you recommended, do you own one? I'm in a bind, don't know which route to go, DSLR or something else? I have final cut studio, but as far as anything else goes I have nada, looking to spend around 700-900 on camera and more on extras, whatever that may be
