haha. oh how i am starting to love this forum. Im not looking for one but was just for future reference. i understand what richard is saying though: like you dont want 2 middlemen inbetween you and distribution companies. so an agent i think would be better. Anyone got any idea as to how much an agent would charge. Would it be a percentage or a set amount??

While a "representative" and an "agent" can be two different
people, in most cases these are different titles for the same
job. I have a producers rep on one movie who is doing the exact
same work my sales agent is doing on two different projects.
I'm not contradicting Richard, just clarifying. These two titles
don't always double up causing a middleman. While the comparison
can be made between a literary or talent manager and agent
(two different jobs); in this case it's not quite as clear.

When you are ready to hire either a producers rep or a sales
agent do you homework and ask questions so you don't end
up with a double fee.

And this is where the difference comes into play. No literary/talent
manager/agent should ever charge an upfront fee. Any that
do - no exception - are scams. On the other hand some very
good producer reps/sales agents do charge and upfront fee.
And in some cases this is acceptable. The filmmaker MUST do
their due diligence when hiring a rep or agent. If they have a
lot of contacts and have an excellent track record it might be
worth it paying their fee.

But in most cases a rep or agent should not be charging anything
up front.
