Directing style for a future work

Hello again, IndieTalk.

I have a question on the type of directing style I should use for a future movie. The movie will be based upon the late 80s and be about a teen whose brother gets AIDS and has trouble with his love life (based upon the book Night Kites).

Anywho, I am wondering if I should shoot the film in digital or use the old 80s style of film. I know audiences in the future will be trained to enjoy digital over older forms, but I think it will be more reminiscent if I use the old grainy and cheaper feel.

I don't know, I liked Almost Famous and it used modern technique for the movie.

Is this something you'd shoot, or something you'd hire people to shoot with you just directing? If you're directing and shooting something of this scope, stick to digital - as with film you'll be wasting money trying to wear too many hats. If you're just producing/directing, bully.

I'm wondering if you're thinking 80s video though (like Betamax or VHS) as 80s film looked the same as 70s & 90s film (to me - I'm sure there were advances in chemistry and what not).
