Hello Everyone,
My name is Darren Curtis. As the title indicates, I'm a composer who loves creating music. I've spent the last couple years composing music in the Indie Gaming world, primarily for the upcoming game "You Are Not The Hero." I've also done a couple short film projects along the way and I'm looking for more.
Rather than ramble about what I do or what equipment I have (you're more than welcome to ask if it matters to you), I'd rather post examples so you can see and hear for yourself. Firstly, here is a link to my Soundcloud's Cinematic Showcase.
To provide examples of my music paired with visuals, I've done a few re-score projects for people to see. To start, I re-scored a beginning scene in "The Grudge." This piece mixes some sound design type ambiance with short musical touches. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmMMSgQ5OBQ
Most recently I've re-scored the trailer for the upcoming SquareEnix project "Life Is Strange." This is a light, dramatic melody led by piano and violin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQNjcyEk9jk
Thirdly, I did a short scene from the film "Drag Me To Hell." I chose this scene as it has a few quick changes within a short time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jCqUMgCqGw
Lastly, I redid the cinematic trailer for "Dragon Age: Inquisition." I really didn't like the musical choice of "What A Wonderful World" it originally had and just wanted to see what I could do with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DwYrpS0W8w
On one last note, much like Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer, I am completely self-taught (though admittedly not nearly as talented as those two!). I've never viewed this as a problem and the Indie Studios I've worked with over the past two years have never seemed to mind, but I thought I'd mention it in case it was a turn off for some. I tend to work best from "creation details." I prefer to discuss character development and scene development to better understand what's needed musically. This has helped me communicate with those who need music and aren't necessarily well-versed or sure how to express what they need. And it really helps me better encapsulate the targeted emotions musically.
For anyone interested, I have the rest of my music of various styles posted on My Soundcloud.
That's all for now. If you have any questions, definitely feel free to ask! I hope everyone had a good Christmas and holiday.
Best wishes,
Darren
