Compression in Sony Vegas

So, I've been working on a video recently and it's pretty much finished. The problem is, it's HUGE.

5 minutes 30 seconds - 1.2GB!

It's ridiculous and means I can't upload it to vimeo.

So I was just wondering, is there something I've done accidentally to make is such a huge file and is there anything I can do in Sony Vegas or otherwise to compress it down to at least <500MB.

Thanks for any help.

Since you'd probably want to make a DVD of it anyway, to impress your neighbours with, export a cut as MPG2. There's a preset for that, that will resize it & everything.

You'll get a reasonably sized file to upload, which also happens to be the format a DVD will use.

yeah, I made that mistake many times. lol. mpg, mp4, and wmv files usually compress it pretty well, but again, I'm definitely not a technical expert. I just go by what works for me.
