Canon 60D DSLR

For better or for worse, I bought this camera today.

Here are reviews on it.

It was in stock. And, the HD video modes impressed me. In addition to its new still capture capabilities, the EOS 60D features Full HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution with selectable frame rates of 24p, 25p or 30p. Native 24p recording helps videographers achieve a more cinema-style look for their footage without the need for post-processing.

Thanks Jeff. I will eventually get a collection of lens for the camera. But, the included lens itn'y bad for a starter lens.

As I said in another post, I bought it to fill a need to have a decent camera to shoot BTS footage and artistic commentaries. I also wanted something besides my Sony Cybershot to shoot promotion stills. This camera seems to be that happy medium.

My DP has more high-end cameras for shooting actual film footage for our productions.

Here's what I went with

Thanks, Knightly.

I downloaded the firmware update and am following the instructions. I expect to spend the next few months learning the camera inside out. It handles relatively easily. I see what the instructions say about the SDHL memory card is true. Allow a good 5 seconds when installing the card for it to register with the camera. There is a red LED that flashes along with a beep when the camera is ready after the card is installed.

I went with a Scan Disk 32 Gig card.

That's what I shoot with. Class 10 or higher for video. If you find oddities that you'd like some insight on, I've spent quite a bit of time in the settings and figuring the beast out as it was a whole new thing after a decade of my old camera.

Thanks Kightly. So far, the DSLR features using it like a SLR camera are easy. I have 3 SLR cameras. So, I have experience with that end of it. It is similar to my Nikon N50 camera in a lot of ways.

Chances are, I may need help when I start using the video features. But, I have experience with my Canon HV30 and my old GL-1. So, I'll see how that goes as I start shooting some test video footage.

I got a 60D a few months ago for my trip to California: taking pictures and shooting videos with one device.
I also got the heaviest Gorilla tripod which I can turn into a DIY shouldermount.
Great for fun stuff and BTS.
Haven't used it for big productions yet. Then I still prefer my EX1R or a C300 or other pro camera.
I installed Magic Lantarn as well: great for timelapses (at night) :) (AlthoughI'd like some more control)

I got a 18-200mm 3,5-6,5 Sigma lens. Not very fast, but very versatile.
And a 1.8 55mm from Canon: very fast and very cheap.

I had the pleasure of having 2 60D's for the first episode of my webseries, comparing it to the 600D I believe there is better noise performance, however in terms of video, there isn't much to be desired for if price is an issue, the only thing I would say is maybe there is slight improved picture quality, but then again it was the first time I had decent lighting available so perhaps more tests needed, but I would definitely shoot with it again. just wouldn't upgrade to it..

Thank you, 8salacious9.

In my case, price was an issue because I have been paying off very big medical bills from an illness that put me in a hospital for ten days with lots of followup doctors visits and visiting nurse services.

So, I did the best I could with the expenses I had to pay. I also put off shooting this year to get caught up. I just want to end the year with some investments for future shoots.
