Best/Worst Taglines

Just wondering what everybody’s favourite taglines are? What’s the most effective? Which make you feel the most drawn in to a film?

What’s the worst tagline you’ve ever had the displeasure of reading? Ever seen one that made you wonder “what were they thinking?”.

I’ll start…

BEST

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – “Who Will Survive And What Will Be Left Of Them?”
To my mind, this one is perfect. It absolutely preludes the violence that you are about to witness. In fact, this tagline, along with the movie’s title, makes it seem like the film will be far gorier and violent than it really is.

or…

The Fly – “Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.”
I like this one, I find it very effective. Even though it’s the repetition of a line of dialogue, you wouldn’t know this until you’d seen the movie. It lets you know there’s something to be scared of. It then tells you that it’s going to get worse. It suits the film well.

WORST

Alien Versus Predator – “Whoever Wins, We Lose.”
I hate this! It’s nonsense! I feel it should continue; “Whoever Wins, We Lose. Unless We Win. Then Things Will Probably Be Okay. Which Is Actually The Most Likely Outcome.” Yeah, it’s a bit long-winded, but it represents the film a little more realistically.

What does everybody else think?

The Fly tagline is very effective indeed. Everything about that film is effective - I have to watch that one again some time soon.

Your tagline for Alien Versus Predator would be great for a parody film ;)

One of my favorites is:

"Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas." - Army of Darkness. It fits the film perfectly.

Charlie St. Cloud - Life is for living.

Citizen Kane - It's Terrific!

Crank: High Voltage - He was dead, but he got the better.

Jaws: The Revenge - This time, it's personal.

The Day of the Dolphin - Unwittingly, he trained a dolphin to kill the president of the United States.

The Blob - Terror has no shape.

The Hottie and the Nottie - That's hot, that's not!

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you, the worst tagline of all time! Brace yourselves....

The Specialist - The government taught him to kill. Now he's using his skills to help a woman seek revenge against the Miami underworld.

The Specialist - The government taught him to kill. Period! To live off the land, to eat things that would make a billie goat puke. Now he's using his skills to help Sharon Stone seek revenge against Jimmy Woods and the Miami underworld. No man, no law, no war can stop him!

Jaws 2 - "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water."

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - "Not that it matters, but most of it's true."

Worst:

Devil - "From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan."
