Just wondering what everybody’s favourite taglines are? What’s the most effective? Which make you feel the most drawn in to a film?
What’s the worst tagline you’ve ever had the displeasure of reading? Ever seen one that made you wonder “what were they thinking?”.
I’ll start…
BEST
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – “Who Will Survive And What Will Be Left Of Them?”
To my mind, this one is perfect. It absolutely preludes the violence that you are about to witness. In fact, this tagline, along with the movie’s title, makes it seem like the film will be far gorier and violent than it really is.
or…
The Fly – “Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.”
I like this one, I find it very effective. Even though it’s the repetition of a line of dialogue, you wouldn’t know this until you’d seen the movie. It lets you know there’s something to be scared of. It then tells you that it’s going to get worse. It suits the film well.
WORST
Alien Versus Predator – “Whoever Wins, We Lose.”
I hate this! It’s nonsense! I feel it should continue; “Whoever Wins, We Lose. Unless We Win. Then Things Will Probably Be Okay. Which Is Actually The Most Likely Outcome.” Yeah, it’s a bit long-winded, but it represents the film a little more realistically.
