Any thoughts on holography?

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but, every time I go to a fanboy movie, I keep wishing we had true 3-D or holography. The news articles talk of the holograph with Princess Leia in the original Star Wars, but we're seeing film representations in Iron Man I and II as well as Prometheus, among others.

The technology is years away, if not decades away, but I remain fascinated by its potential. Any thoughts from those who still film in non-holography?

You can have 'interactive porn'. It's called sex.

But you have to pay for it (sometimes), and you can catch something. With a ST holodeck, you can do it safely. :D

But, getting back to the topic, I understand with a true hologram, you can see details not possible with film, digital or otherwise. For example, if you take a magnifying glass and look at a hologram of a tree, you can see the insects on the branches, but, if you do that with a picture, you only see ink dots. That's because light waves are small enough so they can capture the insects on the tree. And, if you use a microscope and examine the hologram, you can even see the cells on the holographic tree.

I saw a hologram of a microscope, and, when I peered through, I could see the cells, so I can vouch for that. But, again, the hologram looked cartoonish, which means this technology has a ways to go.

Oh believe me, you always pay for it, just not always financially.
