    Developing style

I've heard of "Waltz With Bashir", but I've never actually seen it, to be honest. I might check it out, as well as the other one you mentioned. I know I saw it discussed on the Current TV "50 Documentaries To See Before You Die", and I saw some clips of it, which really made interesting use of...

    Developing style

KJones, Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I've had so many ideas for stories, for scripts, and yet the actual process of writing them is a lot tougher than coming up with the idea, and I've just about given up pursuing a career as a screenwriter. Even when I decided that I was going to...

    Developing style

Thanks, Cracker. I guess right now I just feel unsure of myself. I have a lot of expectations of myself, and I find myself doubting myself right now. I thought about making a documentary about "Black Friday", as a means of trying to understand why people do things like camp out in front of...

    Developing style

I feel somewhat unsure talking about this, but I've been seriously considering trying to develop my style. I honestly think now that every documentary I do has to be something epic, something spectacular, something "outside the box". In other words, it can't look or feel like a conventional...

Should I get a composer before or after editing?

I'm not sure if this will help, but if you do happen to work with a composer, you need to tell him what kind of music will fit a particular scene. I think that the best thing you could do would be, rather than picking pre-existing pieces and hoping that they will fit, would be to work with a...

watch Music Video - "Occupy Wall Street" by Wildlife Control

Here is a music video I just completed, combining footage and audio from the various Occupy Wall Street demonstrations throughout the U.S. and the world, with a song I found on Soundcloud by an unsigned band, Wildlife Control, called "Occupy Wall Street". I just completed it today. Please let me...

    Making documentaries without archive footage

Yeah, that would definitely work. My next one is going to have some humorous elements, and that does add greatly to any documentary.

    Making documentaries without archive footage

Thanks, Guerrilla. I try as best as I can to make it compelling, even if the subject is something mundane. I would like to make more documentaries like the one I made about my guitar teacher, which I posted here. I know from taking some video production classes at college that it also helps to...

    Making documentaries without archive footage

I thought about making a documentary about the events of the 1960's, mainly comprised of footage and sounds from that period. I did not want it to be something ordinary, with a bunch of interviews and narration in order to put it in context. I wanted it to be sort of a "tone poem" or something...

    watch Golden Goal

Here is the latest film I've completed, this one a tribute to Canada's gold medal win in men's hockey at last year's Olympics. This video is comprised almost entirely of amateur video I found of the game, or at least whatever was available on Youtube. I tried improving the audio somewhat, with...

    My new Youtube page

After a lot of thought and consideration, I decided to give Youtube another try, and create another page for my short films, to go along with my Vimeo page. It's located at: http://www.youtube.com/chrish738 My Vimeo page is still active, though, at: http://www.vimeo.com/chrishadley I...

    watch Summer Of '69

I'm sorry about the audio. At the time, I was trying to save money for a better microphone, but I had to use what I could. As for my voice, that's usually how it sounds when I narrate, or at least when I try to put expression into it. Thanks, though.

    watch Summer Of '69

http://www.vimeo.com/28338614 I know that I talked about doing a film about the moon landing, and after some thought about it, this is what I came up with. It's based on a poem I wrote about the space program, connecting the Apollo 11 mission, and all the events that have taken place in the...

    DSLR cameras under $1000

I think that I've found the camera that will work for me, Sineater, and it's one of the Panasonic Lumix G2 models. I read the descriptions on Amazon.com and it has an output for an external stereo mic, which I've been looking for. I think I'll go with that one. Thanks.

    DSLR cameras under $1000

At this point, I'm still not sure. I will try to just research online, before I make my decision. The only reason I was unsure about the Canon models was because they don't shoot continuous video, although I've found that the T2I does, at least. Thanks, everyone.

    DSLR cameras under $1000

Honestly, I'm not really sure what I should do. Personally, in my situation, where money is very tight, I don't think that I should spend more than $1,000 to try to get a decent camera. I don't think, also, that miniDV is going to work either because the technology seems very outdated (at least...

    DSLR cameras under $1000

Cameron, I'm certainly leaning towards the Panasonic cameras, mainly this one: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/FZ100/FZ100A.HTM I tried looking for the GH1 but every one of them is more than $400. Are you referring to the Lumix model? My main concern is generally with the sound, because...

    DSLR cameras under $1000

Hi everyone, I'm seriously considering upgrading my gear, and getting a DSLR camera for Christmas. However, I'm not quite sure which one to get, and in particular, I'd like to have just enough room left over to spend on sound equipment and other accessories after I buy the camera without going...

    Documentary ideas

I've decided that instead of a documentary, I would like to make a music video instead, with the footage set to an original song about the mission. Are there any composers here who might be interested in writing one? I'm thinking that it would be something in the singer-songwriter vein, nothing...

    Documentary ideas

Thanks, everyone, but that's really not in my plans as of now. I just wanted to make this particular film because it was a subject I found fascinating and because of what could be done with the materials that already exist, and to capture the experience of that event. Thanks, though.
