I've tried the Merlin too. It's tough to get balanced but it's great once you get it right. Maybe someday when I have the loot.

Some people do it but it could be trouble in the long run. If you don't have the music rights then you can't sell it or put it in festivals. Making your project kind of a dead end, unfortunately.

I own a SteadDSLR for my Canon 5. I think some of the parts are found but it seems the cheese plate and weight arm part is custom made. Either way it was still a good deal and it works awesome.
