watch 2nd Music Video in Hollywood

The music isn't my cup of tea, but the video is fantastic! Once again, excellent work!

watch Coldplay Scientist Video by AD 2478

When you encode the video, you encode it at a certain bitrate, the number of bits per second. Higher bitrate means higher quality. Sometimes people record at a certain framerate, but encode at another one. For instance, an old trick to get smaller files would be to take a video that is...

watch Coldplay Scientist Video by AD 2478

What bitrate did you encode at? Also, did you leave it at 30 fps? My buddy who works at Youtube suggests that you encode at as high a bitrate as possible. The video will look no better than the flash encoding that it is at. However, in the future, as the codec improves, you won't have to...

How can I get paid to film?

Try doing a few promos here and there for free. I started doing Tae Kwon Do studio and drum school ones. After a few of those, I was able to charge $50 and hour for shooting and editing. When gigs are available, it's a good living.

    Inspiring Films

The Man Who Would Be King. Makes me want to go to a lost region and convince the locals that I am Alexander the Great's son, while I loot their treasure. Sean Connery and Michael Caine shined as a beacon to scoundrels worldwide.

    Insurance and Locations

You can always piggyback on someone else's insurance. You could pay them $200, and they would act like the production company only in name, and yours would be a satellite of their only for the shoot. We did that on our music video shoot in Bodfish, CA, and ended up saving $1000.

Film Look Solution with HD Camera

Fortunately, my DP knew what he was doing. His shots came out better than my storyboards on many instances. What more can you ask for?

Film Look Solution with HD Camera

Thanks. I do believe the Redrock makes a massive difference. At least for the look, this was a significant step up in quality for us. Now, after 6 years, we may be able to fool people into thinking that we know what we are doing. :)

watch How much did this video cost...can you guess?

Canon XH-A1 and the redrock adapter with lenses were already owned, although then we had the second latest version, so lighting became a problem in the late afternoon. I guess all said and done, this thing ran about $1000, but my hood came up and smashed my windshield to bits. So the price...

    Help with music video

As long as the shot is steady, and you don't really have to match move, you can always just matte out the mirror in Final Cut, Motion or After Effects. It might get trickier if you have the person partially blocking the mirror. You might want to avoid or limit that to simplify process. A...

    watch First Music Video

Hey icebluorbitz, I saw that the Youtube video said Palmdale. We were just up the 14, maybe 80 miles. Our main cost came from renting out the ghost town, and the insurance. In total, we ended up spending around $750, as we also camped out for a few days. The vast majority of the budget...

watch How much did this video cost...can you guess?

There was a location to pay out, and insurance. The ghost town did cost some money.

    watch First Music Video

Fantastic first video! You really hit gold on the professional look using those lenses! Also, I really dug your kinetic editing. Methinks you have the talent to have a very lucrative career ahead of you. We just filmed our first music video as well, 100 miles up the road from you at Trona...

    Shooting in a moving car

We tried using the Cinesaddle on a dirt road, but with disappointing results. You can see the footage below (the shots of the bicycle). It would probably work much better on a paved road though. The key is to get it stabilized enough so you can correct in Motion, Shake or After Effects...

Film Look Solution with HD Camera

It's my buddy's setup, but I believe he was using Nikon lenses. He has all the lenses ranging from 28mm to 105mm though.

Film Look Solution with HD Camera

Recently we shot a music video using a Canon XHA1 with the Redrock adapter. We were trying to go for a High Noon look, and ended up using 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm lenses. The camera plus adapter and lenses ran us about $6000 total, and we are extremely happy with the look. Admittedly, the...

    Hello from LaLa Land

Hello All, I am a filmmaker based in Los Angeles. At least I like to call myself a filmmaker. In truth I make my money in editing, so let's just call me an amateur filmmaker then. I have experience with a wide variety of genres, but find myself focusing more on adventure documentaries...
