    Upgrading from a T2i

It doesn't take nearly $1000. At least not over the same Panasonic models mentioned. Memory cards aren't that much anymore. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/824140-REG/SanDisk_SDSDXPA_032G_A75_Extreme_Pro_32_GB.html Batteries are cheap if you are ok with carrying a bunch of small ones...

    Upgrading from a T2i

Might I humbly suggest the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera? Dynamic range will be the best you can get in that price range and the low light is decent (better than it gets credit for) especially if you get a speed booster down the line. I used to own a GH4, traded it in and got an a7s and...

Black Swan (The DP's decision to use a 7D)

Thanks Chili! That was the first explanation of the difference between f/stops and T-stops that I was able to actually visualize.

    Quick lighting solutions

I think directorik is absolutely right. Lighting is as essential as anything else to having all this work you are doing get taken seriously and more importantly be seen as *good*.

Choose Best Camera for Independent Filmmaking in 2012

Yeah the problem is that if I have $1,000 to spend, a Canon or Panasonic DSLR might be the best camera for an indie filmmaker. If I have $6,000, well I might try the AF100 or FS100. If I have $20,000 then the Scarlet, F3 or C300 would be my choice. For us indies price matters at least as much...

    Directing on a Per-Line Basis...Am I Expecting to Much?

I'm late to the party with this one, so I'll just let my good friend David Cronenberg answer this one for us. Take it away, Dave: http://nofilmschool.com/2011/12/david-cronenberg-working-actors-get-good/

    Are We Our Worst Critics?

I have given up on ever actually being happy with something I've done. Not to say I don't think I can do good work, but I always see so many things I'd like to do better next time that that becomes my focus. Double-edged sword because while that drives you to move forward and it makes you...

Need VFX work and sound design.

So my effects artist bailed on me. I have a fully edited 10 minute short that needs to be finished. The story doesn't work without the effects and we all know how important sound is. I don't have a huge budget, but there will be some pay upfront for both jobs. I'm looking for people to work...

    How to shoot for effects

Thanks Brooksy, Wheatgrinder and Will Vincent! With the info you've given me I feel like I can move forward with the project. If anyone else has any more good advice and/or knows a good artist who wants to get involved feel free to respond. Thanks again!

    How to shoot for effects

Hi All, Been lurking here for over a year absorbing all the wisdom on these boards. Now I need some advice and can't think of anywhere better to turn. Here's my situation: I've written and cast a short that requires a few effects shots. Some of the effects if need be I can handle myself (eye...
