Who Wants In???

You're welcome.

I would like to see more transparency if this is a truly collaborative
project. When you say you will “leak some information” and “That
all i can really say for now.” it makes me think you and the writers
are writing YOUR project and we will be informed later. I'm not
suggesting you change what you are writing. I'm not suggesting you
do anything any different. If this is your project and you want crew,
that's great. I am just observing and commenting on what I'm
reading about this project.

I definitely understand what you're saying. I guess you could say we are looking for crew, but when we finally get on set it will a big collaborative assignment, where I would like the Director of Photography really focusing on everything camera wise. While the director more focuses on acting, do you get what I'm saying?

I will tell the short version of our story:

This film will actually be a prequel to a project that I want to do when I hopefully get a little bigger in the film business.

This film will take place in the country side of the fake balkan country, "Illyria". As one man who use to be an advisor to the High King of Illyria, ends up killing the High King, and the secret police of Illyria go on a hunt after him.

If you have everyone show up on set and expect collaboration and figuring everything out on the spot, it's going to be a huge mess. A lot of film is preproduction planning.

I get what you're saying. You need a crew to do exactly what crew
does. You also want the gaffer to focus on lighting and the editor
to focus on editing. I suspect you will want an audio person to
really focus on everything sound wise.

In your first post you seemed to be saying you wanted filmmakers
from here on indietalk to come together to make a movie and I
misunderstood your intention. My mistake. I see now you are
gathering crew interest before you even have a script.

My suggestion is to hold off getting crew commitments until you
have a finished script and a starting date. I know how excited we
get as we writer thinking about production - but it's impossible
for crew (DP, gaffer, audio, grips, art department) to make a
commitment without even knowing when you are shooting.
I might even be able to be your DP depending on when you are
shooting. I wouldn't mind traveling at my expense to get a DP
credit on a really amazing indie feature. Can't commit now, but
after I read the script and you have a set shoot...

Sounds great directorik, As of right now the script is a quarter of the way done. I totally see what you're saying about making commitments as well.

I'm assuming you also liked the story somewhat? haha.

to clear one more thing up, Illyria will not be mythical land, like i said its on the balkan peninsula it will actually be located where Albania is now.

I'm always honest. So far your story does not appeal to me. However
the script may be excellent. I reserve comment until I read the finished
script.

I've made and worked on a lot of movies. It could be well over a year
from the script being a quarter of the way done to the first day of shooting.
It is not beyond the realm of possibility that you will not be ready to bring
on a crew until May/June of 2015. That's why I think it's premature to start
asking for commitments (or even interest) until you have a set in stone
start date.

Definitely agree with everything you say here.

what about the story isn't appealing to you? If you don't mind me asking.

@Giovanni -

Thanks for giving us more info in where you are in the writing process. I'll check in on your thread from time to time, but feel free to PM me here when you have something I could read.

@Jax - my LA appearance isn't locked down, but I'll know soon. If it happens I'll let you know.

alright sounds good, man.

Starting to hear some great things from this thread, really like the criticism and everything comin from here.

There is one thing I will say that I know we will need once we he on set...a good set designer and costume designer, especially with this film.

We have some bad information coming in from the writing room after about a hour long meeting, we will be dropping the Screenplay, for it calls for too much when it comes to set production, green screen, etc. things that a low budget indie just cannot produce.

However, a new screenplay has already been started and was worked on today.

But...I also see this as an opportunity, for you guys if you would like to pitch an idea for a story, things to keep in mind it will have to have the setting of mostly the woods, and fields and plains, near wooded rivers, etc. For my family own large amounts of these regions it would be very, very easy to film here for an extended amount of time.

So, lets hear what you guys have!!!!

(Everyone as far as writing is still very committed to doing a project, this is still very much alive)

Good thing no one made any concrete commitments yet

The project is still a go, and very much alive. It's just we will either roll with the screenplay that we all agreed on earlier this evening, or we also wanted to see what the people of Indie Talk had to offer. ;)

The screenplay we selected still has to do with the country of Illyria. The first one was just getting way to big budget. As I said we can either roll with the one we decided on earlier tonight, or if anybody has something to offer, here's you're chance!!

This is way I advise filmmakers to not start asking for crew
until the script is finished and a start date set. Get that
screenplay written and polished and then put your crew
together. You don't want to rush the script.

Yes, this thread was kind of trying to see how much interest would we get. And maybe see who personally was interested.

We do have our script though and we will begin writing today.

Directorik, would you be willing to read and critique as we go?

As you all might know a new Community Project thread has come to Indie Talk, but I ask you all to stay with me and the other writers and continue your support as we continue to drill this screenplay....

For we are very committed and passionate about this project and have every intention on seeing it through.

OUR project will not lead to any, ''traps''

Thank you.

It might be a thing with just me, but I'd strongly advise that you strike that term from your professional vernacular.

It spit-dribbling screams nube.

Please, for your own professional development and image - don't ever use it.

Say that you have the finances and resources instead.
