I thought you and Abraham Diekman did a fabulous job, directing/producing this first flick!

Some amazing shots, locations and matte work (cliff with waterfall, castle-like structure, collapsed bridge, etc.) in this! Bird's eye flyovers of the forest (are these Vue FX?) Granted, I didn't want to watch these actors (including Abraham) for 33 minutes, the lighting, soundwork and technical elements are superior to most indies I see. Loved the blend of the skull into the face.

What you lack in your shots are character intensity. Some more closeups and extreme closups would help a lot - like the one where Eunan is reflected in Death's sunglasses. Duck the music a little more, during certain dialogue (example - 25:30 mark), by keyframing audio levels.

What keeps this from being great, aside from some acting? 33 minutes, that's what. The pace is too drawn out. There is too much talking. 10 - 15 minutes and this could be great. That sounds like an exaggeration of time, but it's not. A couple lines for the girl (or not), at the beginning and some narration about her death. Get it moving - get right to the skull face and then meet death. Too much plodding, in its current form.

I could go on about "this is your first movie, so I give you a pass for that," but you actually have the makings of something much better, just by editing it down. The acting would come off better and the story would be more clear. There's something about the dialogue in its current length that puts me off. I think less is more, in this case. You would probably get a lot more views, because when I saw the length, I was going to skip it.

This is quite an accomplishment.
 
No, I am the worlds greatest director, and no one can direct like me. My feature length wonder of cinema is perhaps the most wonderful film ever brought to screen. If no one has seen this magical journey into the old west, they should be ashamed.

Come on man, an opinion is one thing. Making ridicule of someone else work...is just plain unprofessional.

Oh, man, that must've been quite the surprise to start logging your footage, only to realize that none of your actors were speaking English! D'oh! Didn't anyone notice that on the set?

I'm sure it's a lot better than you think it is. I think most of us filmmakers are our own biggest critics, no?

Actually, I think this thread could get fun. Everybody show us your worst video! I'm currently uploading mine to youtube, and then it will take a little while to process -- it's 10-minutes of pure crap! :lol:
 
You want to see a bad film? Get on YouTube and look up Peter Jackson's first film. Its sooooo bad! A first bad film means absolutely NOTHING and certainly is no indication of what one may be capable of down the road. Don't worry about his films. You just do what you need to be doing.

I don't know where my first doc is. I should go look for it, I do have my second little film somewhere....

You gotta start somewhere.

I think it's not so much the quality of the guy's film, it's his ego that's under attack here. I've never seen anyone here nor on any other message board who has been ridiculed for making a bad film when the filmmaker understands that they made a bad film and can learn from it.

The hoards only seem to come out when the filmmaker is going off about how great they are while flaunting some horrid movie they've made.

I would never post up someone's work with the preface: "This is the worst film this guy has ever made. Please criticize him so he gets the point".

That's what I find not OK with this person's thread.

That's because we don't do that sort of thing on this board and we tend to stop people from doing that to others. Criticism should be constructive and helpful.

As promised, here's the worst movie I've ever made. I'd post my first movie, but that one was actually pretty sweet, in a totally amateurish-but-fun way.

WARNING:

This video contains a plot and gimmick that is way more boring than I thought would be, atrocious audio, copywrite infringement, and gratuitous fat-guy butt.

However, my friends and I had fun making it, and I learned from my mistakes.

I'm gonna have to agree that this bashing campaign is pretty pathetic. Seriously, show us your project you made for that class.

But this thread has made me really sad for a completely other reason. I lost my first 'film' in a hard drive crash 3 years ago. I made it my senior year of high school for my science fiction class.

Don't get me wrong, it was complete crap. But there is so much stuff I did in there that I loved! I want it back!!!!! :cry::mope:

Meh. Looks to me like it's exactly what it was intended to be: an experimental creation to learn the editing software and to learn how to use various effects and transitions. We all have to start somewhere. I give him an A+ for effort. At least he's pursuing his passion.
