Noob questions involving cameras and lenses

Really want to get to know more about lenses I own a Canon vixa hf g10, I mean there is so much out there to learn I guess my real question is what's the diference some lenses? is the Iris on some able to open and shut further then other lenses? What is considered a good lens when measuring in F Stops? any kind of info would be appreciated, I tried looking it up on my own but am having trouble expressing what i want to learn in the google search bar.

I went through a similar question when I first got my camcorder.

Pretty much forget hooking up any sort of DSLR lens to a camcorder via the filter threads or adapters.
It just doesn't work. (Yeah, you can figure out a way to physically stick a DSLR lens on a camcorder, but the focal length and glass placement doesn't work at all getting a usable image onto the CMOS sensor.)
Forget it.
Move on.

This leaves you with pretty much just two add-on lens options: Telephoto lenses and wide angle/fish eye lenses.

Your camera has a 58mm filter thread: http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/canon-vixia-hf-g10/4507-6500_7-34468436.html

Wheat directed me to Raynox lenses which I find to be fairly decent.

I have both a tele and a WA.

The telephoto is about useless.
The WA has limited utility. It's not like you're gonna pop one on your camera and then start shooting 'Tree of Life' anytime soon.
