What I want to know is how come I didn't hear that he disappeared 5 months ago. Seems like that would have been bigger news.

I read about it many times. It probably just depends on what periodicals you read - which is NOT a criticism, just an observation.

It was known that he'd disappeared while hiking on that mountain but weather intervened in the search and probably knocked shit around.

I'm sure you're right. I don't actually keep up with the news except sporadically. I likely just missed it. Always liked Julian Sands though.

It was big news here in the Los Angeles area - where he lived and where he was hiking.
There was a major search operation for several weeks. Deadline did a story on it and
updated periodically. I kinda thought it was national news. Not sure why you didn't
hear about it in January.

Yeah, I must have just been preoccupied and missed it. Happens sometimes. Julian Sands always seemed like a really cool person to me. It's a shame he didn't get more roles of better quality. I think his early B movies were so popular that he sort of got typecast as a B actor. Later on in life he got some better roles, and did a good job in my opinion. A semi underused actor, kind of like F Murray Abrahams.
