Is this any good as a portable lighting source?

So I want to get some lighting thats portable and powerful and rechargeable. So I'm looking into touches as lighting sources. Such as this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rechargeabl...F2UC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1347705386&sr=8-2

Do you reckon this would work? I don't really know how many candle-powers or lumens are necessary.

I've seen these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dimmable-Di...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1347705634&sr=1-1
too which I suppose you could stick on top of a tripod.

Any preferences?

They will light up a small city like day time... for about 5 minutes on a charge. If you have access to wall power, these make a nice spot light. They shoot light straight ahead and would most likely work best (I have one) for you shot into a largish diffusion scrim to make useable light. You also have to hold in the trigger (duck tape! -- or a grip ;) )

The first link will look like a super-bright spotlight, with a really bright hotspot in the center. Used one in a recent film (as a flashlight lightsource), and had to tape diffusion gel to the front to get a reasonable spread... and it still looked like a flashlight with a hotspot in the middle.

The second one has a hotshoe mount for putting directly on top of your camera. You could also stick it on a lightstand, sure, with either an adapter or tape. It's very small, and does not light up a big area from far away. It's more suitable for closeups, where the light can be just off-frame. The included plastic colour-changing slides are not useful for colour balancing at all. Better off wrapping some actual gels across the front. The variable brightness dial is very handy.
