In the dark/deep shadows

Hello guys!

I am completely new to filmmaking, trying to gather all the information slowly and prepare for my first short.

So the idea is that I want a scene in the dark where man has a Light like this so it gives an atmosphere of searching and a feeling of a lost person. I want to shoot on a DSLR,most likely the std Canon T2i or smth in the range.

Can a hard light spot from one side and a soft kicker from the other side of the face provide enough light and maintain those deep shadows and contrasts and the feeling of overall darkness?

Too many variables to give you a straight answer. The short one is that it depends on ambient lighting and where the practical is positioned. Ultimately, my advice is to try it and find out.
