filming on New York and LA streets

Hi! So I am going to New Yor and probably LA in 9 weeks.

I am in London and to film anything here I don't really need permission in public as long as I dont use tripod or there is less than 5 people, otherwise I do need permission.

How does it work in NY or LA? Can I was and film handheld in public? let's say in Manhattan? Are there any "rules" to what I can or can not do/film?

The rules are exactly the same here. Just keep it guerrilla. Even if you get caught, nothing happens. They just ask you to leave. Have fun and good luck!

In all honesty, Not is right. If you're just shooting with a really small 'crew' and a tripod, do your own thing until a security guard asks you to stop. As long as your content doesn't contain anything intrusive or inappropriate.

I've regularly filmed in city streets in Denver and Chicago, and I've just gone for it. Usually no one cares, with the occasional security guard being annoyed depending where you are. I always just say I'm a student and they let me do what I want, within reason, of course.
