Grand Prize Winner in Hollywood's Short Screenplay contest. Now what?

Congratulations!

Are you saying that the script that won isn't in proper screenplay
format?

Your next step is to write several feature screenplays. Shorts rarely
sell. However with this win you might find an aspiring filmmaker
who would like to make a movie. Likely for little or no money but
you would get the credit and get to see your script made into a movie.

Free script evaluation and free enter for the Hollywood contests. Also free MAGIX softwares.
So their evaluation doesn't include answering your questions about selling it, etc?
As directorik said, it's pretty tough to sell a script for a short. How many people do you know that have paid to watch shorts? I don't know if it will work for your subject matter but try to ask that contest if they think your short has the potential to be expanded to a full length script.

You can also try rewriting your script into a short story format & send it to magazines & publishers. But do some research first if there are magazines, websites, etc. that do pay for short stories like yours.

Everyone I ask agrees with you but I don't get it, short films might be dead from movie theatres but they grow a lot on Youtube. There are short films with millions of views and so thousands of dollars earnings!

I didn't know about magazines and websites, I'll search for it, thank you!

.....................

Those short films with millions of views are the exeption and if they were shot for normal rates they would still lose money when gathering thousands of dollars from millions of views.

Could the short be made in Greece?
I don't know whether or not there is still a filmfund there.
Maybe you can try to find a producer/director who is able to get the funding to make the short. (You can wait till the other contests don't open bigger doors.) You won't get rich, but if it is well done, it can win prizes at festivals and then try to get those millions of views on YouTube.
(But those are short term gains.)

The long term gain will be that you have an award winning script that won awards at festival and got seen on YouTube. And if a filmfund funded it: they now know your name, so it might make it easier to get funding again for future projects: even in the writing stage.

In the mean time: keep writing and summit this script to those other Hollywood contests to see what prizes, attention, connections and/or feedback that will give you.

That's why I suggested you find a filmmaker who makes short films
and offer your award winning script to them. Thousands of short films
are made every year. You have an award winning script. You need
to let filmmakers know your script is available. If a filmmaker sees
the Grand Prize Winner listed on the website and wants to contact you
how can they do so?

Have you thought of contacting the filmmakers of the YouTube videos
you have seen and offering them your script?

The founders of the contest will not do the work for you; they are busy
with the next contest. It's time for YOU to get your name and script
out there.

It's time for YOU to get your name and script
out there.

This is what I'm doing. Indietalk is my fourth step after some emails for
suggestions and updating my Inktip listing. I'm gathering any knowledge
about what could I do and I enrich my next steps which are finding any
short film agent (I think I'll delete that step), emails to popular short film
producers, and then searching in Greece to make it a movie. The truth is
that I wanted to sell it and with the money to translate the new 115 pages
screenplay I wrote.

I didn't have any further interest for that winning script, because wherever
I sent it for review and analysis everyone was telling me that the story is
very nice but it's not based on Hollywood plot format and so it can't success
in USA. And finally, Hollywood itself gave me the Grand prize...! Anyway, I
studied a lot the Hollywood format and I was focused only in my next
screenplay. But the prize came and I'm searching now what can I do
with this short script.

Thank you for the answers!

I am curious.

You say your scripts are only for Hollywood yet you say your scripts
are not “Hollywood” plot format – that you don't follow the standard
steps Hollywood follows.

Why do you do this? If you are writing only for Hollywood why do you
not follow the standard steps Hollywood follows?

On the other side of this; your script that does not follow Hollywood
plot format just won the Grand Prize in a Hollywood screenplay contest.
Perhaps that means that some people say it can't succeed in USA but
others say it can. Not all who say it can't succeed are correct.
