shot my graveyard scene, opinions?

This was just practice footage for the camera work. Ill use a boom mic next time. the final piece is meant to be shot at night with tombstones. this is only the first page of the script.

what do you think? I quickly edited it together, I could spend more time on that and probably change some of the storyboards around.

Exposure and framing are largely fine.

Opening shot: Shoot for "perceptual level" rather than actual level. Something I've learned is that while the little tripod level bubble says the camera's horizontally level the image doesn't at all look that way in the viewfinder.
In my nature shots I often gotta manually level for crooked trees or funny angles along vegetation growth lines.

And then there's the audio sync. Yeah. That. (Separate issue, I understand.)

Open up that aperture. Lock the focus.
Get some bokeh in there.
Distinguish your foreground from the background.

Teach your actor how to use a shovel. (NOT all shoulders. More jumping. )

Camera on SHOVELER is largely static.
Camera on SITTER is largely mobile/handheld.
Probably ought to make them both very similar - unless the difference is an intent you have, in which case I failed to appreciate the benefit.

I don't care for the final drift-off shot. Personal preference, though.

I think the editing is fair, no need to monkey with that much.

Does your camera do night shots well, or will that be a post effect you apply? Day for night.

ok thanks a lot for the tips, I re-edited it to make it look better. I'm going to get behind the shoulder shot of the guy getting out of his chair next time and tell him to remain standing for the rest of the scene.

I don't think I'll be using this camera for the final shoot. Its a canon HG-20. I'll probably rent a black magic pocket camera.

for the ending shot, I'm trying to make a transition to show time has passed and the shovel guy has dug a big enough hole. I wanted to get the camera panning to the sky and then back down.

do you have any other ideas for this? thanks

also I re-edited the storyboard in moviestorm of how im going to make it look next time:

I was trying to make the first one more diverse with the wide angles but for some reason it turned out bad. This one is more basic and clean now, I dont know if thats good or not

Sounds good.
But I don't think a "better" (BMPC) camera's going to add anything other than experience and hassle factor.

Nope.
None comes to mind.

Take a look at this post, see if you can glean anything useful: http://www.indietalk.com/showthread.php?p=341129#post341129
