Keyboards and Shuttle Thingies....

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a custom keyboard to go along with the copy of Avid Xpress DV that I just ordered. I know that I definitely want something with actual keys, not stickers. I seem to always see the Logic brand (that's what most of the equipment dealers seem to stock). I figure the cheapest route is to just buy the "keycaps" from Logic for my current keyboard (a standard G4-style apple pro),

but I've also seen this thing on sale from Bella.

I've never heard anything good about all the so-called shuttle devices for non-linear editing, but I haven't really heard anythign scathing either. I've been using various NL systems for a long time, and I've never really seen the need for one. But who knows what I could be missing!

So my questions are:

1. What would you get?

Logic Keycaps for $50
or
Logic Keycaps with a separate shuttle controller device (another $40-$90)
or
Bella Shuttle Keyboard for $99?

2. Do you or have you used some kind of shuttle device with your NL system and do you like it?

I'd get the Logic Keycaps for $50. I don't really care for the shuttles, mainly because I've never used them in a NLE.

I just like the keyboards that you can arrange the keys to match your keyboard settings.

That's the way I was leaning. In fact, I had them half ordered before I decided to post and get some opinions. That other keyboard just looks too damn big and don't like where the arrow keys are. I can always get a separate shuttle device if I ever decide I want one.

I've never seen a keyboard like so before!

Has anyone actually used one? It looks pretty neat and gadgety... and gadgets are a secret weakness of mine.

Hehe! If you get one Zen, you must promise to write a review for all of us!

ahab,

let me know how Avid is please. I haven't committed to an editor yet. I am learning on Premiere 6.0 but have read quite a bit about Avid. I'd try the demo but like to hear some word of mouth stories first.
