Need Help with copyright Issue on Motion Pictures.

Can someone tell me about the copyright law of making a sequel to a film that is already made?
The film would be registered in the U.S.

I need to know if I need to obtain copyright permission from the owner of the origional work that I would be making a sequel too?

Thank you,
Landon D. Parks

Short answer*: yes. It is a derivative work. Since it is a sequel, significant intillectual property will have to be extracted or derived from the original work. The copyright website may have more info, or it may not. Good Luck!
