First Time Camera?

Hey all, looking for a camera to get as a first one. Not entirely sure on what my budget will be but naturally nothing too much.
Preferably something that would work for my uni course that I'm hoping to be going on next year.
Cheers

Should have a look at DSLR's with video modes on them, i'm looking to get a D3100, they do fantastic quality filming and are only about £400. The only draw back is that they can only record for 10 minutes at a time, though i can't think of a situation other than time lapse where you would need to.

As you know from reading all the "what camera should I get" posts here
there are two things that are VERY important when getting a camera:

Manual controls for the iris, shutter, focus and white balance.
A microphone input.

I started to do the research for you but I ran out of time. THIS LINK should
get you started. Check out the cameras there and choose one that has a mic
input. That one will work for your uni course that you're hoping to be going
on next year.

If i was you I would save a little bit more and get the Canon 550d. I just bought one brand new for £500. Or if you need it straight away i would recommend the Panasonic SD60 Full HD. Really nice camera can be picked up for around £300.
