Cosmonaut (16mm/Super-8) Short Film

Hi everyone,

I had completed this film at the end of last year and I'm about to submit to a few festivals. Any critiques would be most welcome at this stage.

SYNOPSIS

After a cosmonaut returns from a failed mission, he arrives to intense scrutiny towards the covert nature of his mission and his apparent ties with Russian intelligence. A THEORIST presents their version of events: to consider how flight engineer SOKOLOV managed to survive in conditions with no means of sustenance and with no sensory stimuli -- the theorist further questions how this incubatory state had affected Sokolov’s thought processes; and whether the void he seemed to be heading towards became an unchartered form of existence and possibly not one that humanity was ready for.

As I'm watching it:

The camera walking beside the character- little shakey, the shot coming towards the camera could use a tripod (unless this was the effect you were going for )

The russian is a nice touch with the subtitles-has a documentary feel to it.

Good lighting from what I can see-except the shot of him in the apartment. I understand if you were going for the silloutte look, but I couldn't make out much until he walked out.

The shot of the monkey was a VERY smart shot, alluding to previous space flights.

I think a little bit of background music would add to it, but that's a personal thing.

The crossfading between the person and sky works well, as does the "jump cuts' of the home movie footage.

Shot at the 6 min mark-going from the pool to the apartment, maybe a half second too long with the black screen?

Overall, A good looking piece of work, you really got the documentary feel down. Is this the final cut, or still in the editing phase?
