Does this work for consumer cameras?

Hi,

I am looking into buying an external microphone for my consumer camera (Canon Hf200). In my research, I found many, but this one stuck out to me: Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone. I know this offers great sound quality, but I don't know if it will work on consumer cameras. Will it?

It will work on any camera that has a mic input.

Actually, the NTG-1 will not work if plugged directly into the Canon Hf200. The NTG-1 requires external phantom power which the Canon Hf200 does not provide. You will need to get the NTG-2 which can get its phantom power from an internal battery, or you will need a mixer like the juicedLink CX-231 which can supply phantom power.
