Aperture and Shutter Speed

I find myself manipulating the iris and/or shutter speed more than anything else (i don't know if that is a good thing or not) but my question is: When I setup my camera at a new location/scene where do I want to start on my iris and shutter speed setting? I guess I'm asking what is the average aperture and shutter speed?

If you are shooting 24 frames per second, the recommended shutter speed to make your footage most look like film is 1/48. I don't think there is an average aperture setting. That is certainly something you will change anyways when you are composing you're shot.
