Basic Documentary Equipment Needed?

I work with a small non-profit dedicated to the education of kids. One of the projects that we would like undertake next year is the creation of a documentary detailing the history of a local school. We're in the process of defining the equipment & resources that we think we will need to complete this project and I'd like to ask for your help. I've done some preliminary research on the equipment we would need to complete a project like this and am more confused now then I was when I started! Can anyone provide me with a list of the basic equipment we would need to shoot and edit the film? Thank you in advance for your help!
