Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison (2008)............ 9/10

I really enjoyed watching this movie. Part of the reason for the high rating is that the writer/producer of the film introduced it here where it was shown. I learned a lot about Johnny Cash and the Folsom prison during that time. I also enjoyed the animations and photography that was edited in the film.

Don't Breathe 3/5

I was expecting a horror film but this felt like a thriller.
The main characters feel like the bad guys and they're robbing a disabled guy.

It's different... the blind guy would typically be the main character in a horror film.
Instead he's trying to hunt down the intruders and we're supposed to be scared for them

A sad little tale so marvelously animated. Really gorgeous to look at. And there's a little warmth and fun in the story too.

Summer of 84 2/5

Started off okay but the scope of the story never expanded. Really wanted the world to open up and it never did.
It's like a modern take on rear window, trapped and watching the outside, but instead of a handicap being a broken leg the handicap is that he's a kid with stupid parents.

First Man

3/5. Good film, but too slow edited. Some really nice images and clever use of sound, but also some scenes felt a bit pointless. Tighter cut would work well in this film.

Lucky

4/5. This was also slow tempo film, but it didn't felt so boring at times than the First Man. Harry Dean Stanton's last film was a pleasure to see, specially since he was one of my favourite actors. Also it doesn't do any harm that the cast includes David Lynch, Ron Livingston and Tom Skerritt. I did like the ending quite much as well, when Harry broke the 4th wall and smiled to the camera. Perfect way to end the movie and eventually the career as well.

Last night I watched "The Other Side of Hope" by Aki Kaurismäki.
I'd rate it as a 3 out of 5 among Kaurismäkis films.

The Old Man & the Gun.................................. 9/10

Just watching it today. It's based on a true story which is wild. I thought the overall tone of the movie was down to earth. It didn't play up the robbery excitement like an Oceans 11 movie. I liked the different layers with the characters too. Good use of film-making tricks for a period piece. Lot's of details.

House of cards sixth season.

Absence of Kevin spacey has really changed the vibe of this show. For better or worse I still don't know. But the clair character has become less passive compared to previous seasons, which is a good thing. But she still remains passive for the most parts. They've added lots of music to the background, which makes the scenes more relatable.

Jobe'z World ........................ 7/10

Really funny. It has a B-Movie vibe to it. Some of the dialog was a bit over the top but overall the main character was a trip. Shot in NY too.

Broken Flowers 9/10
I really love Jim Jarmusch's films so this might just be me being biased but it's a really wonderful and accessible film especially with his drawn-out style of filmmaking. The music is wonderful and the performances (as it is with most Jarmsuch films) are extremely memorable
My Dinner with Andre 8/10
I was expecting a lot more out of this film, especially considering it had high praise by Roger Ebert but I think the film works best if you don't know anything at all about the film. It's bold in it's take and in it's conclusion which is why I gave I think it's an eight out of then film. It's somber and eloquently insignificant in a really artistic and beautiful way I feel.
Loving Vincent 7/10
I watched this one today in college and although impressive visually, story wise it's a bit of a dud. with a narrative that is kinda lackluster and boring at times. I think the most profound thing the film has to say is how people even close to Van gogh seem to have such differing opinions on him which I think is emblematic of all art and artist. It's all interpretations, some baseless, some accurate but all him.

The Dreamers' Field ................................... 8/10

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5839570/

Really raw documentary about a small band that is trying to make it in London and their hometown. I saw this at a festival. I was reminded by this movie a lesson in film making. It's possible to make a good movie even if it's in a different language and the overall production isn't the best. The story and the people are the main thing in this movie and it was fun to watch.

Hells yeah man, language doesn't matter, never should, as long as the filmmaking is good. If people can work well within their limitations, great things can happen.
