great jazz scores, Pelham One Two Three

I forgot how much David Shire's score for The Taking of Pelham One Two Three kicks ass. Anyone else a fan?

Synthesized and digital music is great, I love it and there's a place for it, but there's something to be said for classic jazz scores with live musicians and real instruments. A few links to click when you need some background tunes...

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three 12-tone funk jazz awesomeness

One of my favorite subjects, actually. As soon as I saw the subject line I thought "I'm going to post The Conversation!" Is there a release of that? I've never been able to find one.

Some others:

Duke Ellington's score for Anatomy of a Murder.

Herbie Hancock's scores for Death Wish and Blow Up.

Miles Davis's scores for Dingo (which also starred Miles as an actor) and Elevator To The Gallows.

Miles Davis's score for A Tribute To Jack Johnson.

Wynton Marsalis's score for Unforgivable Blackness.

I really love the music in Woody Allen films. You can't go anywhere but right with gypsy jazz and film.

Totally. Not to mention one of Sean Penn's best performances. Or, at the very least, my favorite performance of his.

Ha! I've been looking as well. Not sure. Let's keep an eye out and let each other know.

Can't believe I forgot the seasonal classic scores that Vince Guraldi did for the Charlie Brown shorts. Gorgeous music.

Not sure of the legitimacy of this, but here's Shire's music for The Conversation for sale by some entity: http://buysoundtrax.stores.yahoo.net/conorsounbyd.html
