Flashing lights horror film

Hi guys,
I have a scene in a short horror film where I have a young man playing a computer game in the dark. I want it to look like the flashing lights from the computer game are lighting up his face and the space behind him every now and then. Does anyone have any advice on how would be best to do this to produce an eerie effect?
Much appreciated!

Yeah, thanks, I think i'll try that and see how it looks. If not, maybe some sort of app that can be used as a strobe light might work.
Have you considered using a light?

I'm "old school" so I don't usually think about some sort of app. There
are actual strobe lights. There are dimmers. There are gels. I would
put a blue gel on a light hooked up to a dimmer and wave my hands
in front of the light to create shadows.

Let me know if you find an app for that.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I have considered using actual strobe lights, but unfortunately i'm on a 'low-no budget', plus it's only for a 30 second film. Waving my hands about in front of a light might work really well, thanks for that!
