The Human Centipede?

Just a general question:
What is your opinion on the film over all? Most people I know that are not avid film fans or at least horror film fans seem to hate it. I just wanted to see what anyone else thought of the film.

I thought it was pretty good.

It was well made, with an interesting hook to the story. It plays out like any other torture porn/slasher/body horror film made previoisly, so to that end, there was nothing special about it. It's certainly a lot less shocking and gory than most people expect.

The sequel though... that's another story.

Final Sequence should be interesting... if it makes it past the censors!

LOVE both the Human Centipede and Human Centipede 2.

The doctor in the first was frightening. He bled misanthropy. He was great, but I have to say I love Martin more. Never says a word in the Human Centipede 2, yet I actually managed to feel sorry for him (momentarily) just watching him in his pathetic little life, living with his mom.

Great movies, both of them.

I am watching the second one right now. Actually more fucked up than the first. I loved the first one. The doctor is one of my favorite horror movie characters ever seen on the screen. A lot of people said the first one was the sickest thing they had seen. I disagree.

I liked it but didn't love it, the idea of the movie was shocking and that has great value in terms of sales.

Personally love horror films but this one could have been so much.

Haha, very well done. I'm tired of this stupid movies, and in my opinion, it's a waste of money.

After watch "The Divide" I thought things similar to your post. I can't believe people are fighting to get a gun while they have an axe on their hands and instead of use it as a gun, they use to cut dead bodies! It's unbelievable, as a lot of other things in this kind of script!

Most "horror movies", including human centipede, are truly stupid fairy tales and do not worth it's cost, in my opinion.

That quiz was very true. I still enjoy the film though. If the other things in the quiz would have happened there wouldn't be much o f a movie to watch.

it was an interesting film, the second one bored me a bit even though i found it more interesting if that makes sense.

but it just felt like they tried to overdo it but in a way that didnt make sense, i remember reading a critic saying that he would rather staple his mouth to his own arse and consume his own crap than ever go through watching the 2nd one again.

To be honest, I thought The Human Centipede was way too disgusting. Perhaps if I felt the movie had a lot of depth in it's story and character development, the gross parts would have been deserved, but the movie just seems to care mostly about shock value, rather than depth and substance.

And I don't get some of the decisions the characters made, and some of the scenarios.

SPOILERS

Why did the Asian guy, gladly kill himself and smile about it, when he could have taken the villain. Why it it implied at the end, that the woman does not get found, when the two cops likely called for back up before going back into the house? I don't expect logic and smart storytelling in every movie, but if I am going to see images as disgusting as that, I better be seeing a movie that is on the same level of substance as Schindler's List or something like that.

I was at the premiere, or one of the very early screenings, for this film in L.A. at the Screamfest Horror Festival. Standing room only.

My takeaway was the choice in camera style, lighting and editing went against the grain of where this sort of "torture porn" genre Hostel-esque films tend to travel. There was no grungy dirty dim lighting, the cinematography was elegant, deliberate, almost sterile/clinical in form, which allowed the editing/pacing to take its time and avoid cheap scares and gotchas. So it seemed the filmmaking team employed the artful sensibilities of a thriller/suspense flick to show in plain daylight the horrifically gruesome and realistic nature of the deranged content.

Just my impression. Have only seen it once. I enjoyed it. Haven't seen any of the sequels and don't plan to.

And of course the actor who played the doctor nailed it.

I think one might get a sick thrill acknowledging it is a film.

As far as the horror context, I have no idea. It's another one of those horror films where if you break it down, you can't help but think of how you would do better in said situation.
