Is this idea stupid or not possible?:(

Could someone write a screenplay and send it to people, and(if it's good/interesting enough) they make it into a movie you see in theaters(or on a DVD), or is this idea so impossible/unlikely, that it's stupid to even ask such a thing?:( I know/imagine it's hard, but does it mean it can't happen to unknown writers? Thank you for taking your time to read and answer this!:)

That is exactly how movies are made. Someone writes a screenplay,
sends it to people and if they like it they make the movie. Sometimes
that movie is released in the theaters.

Yes, it's hard but it happens. Even to unknown writers.

This is called writing on spec. Spec is short for speculation; the writer
hopes that someone will buy it.

It's hard but it's even HARDER if you have a script like the matrix, lots of vfx, action scenes, explosions, etc
The script for the matrix was purchased in 1994.. and did not release as a movie until 1999

Some scripts are purchased and then never made into a film

It becomes easier if you have a cheap-to-produce script like "Jeff who lives at home" but these types of films are more likely to release on DVD than in the theatre

The key is this "good/interesting". First send your script for analysis to see your mistakes and correct them, or study to understand them. Then you maybe can send it to contests so relevant people see it. When you are "sure"... for your script, send it to agents. Just make it a little easier than send it directly to agents and wonder why they reject it. This is an unexperienced opinion though.
