Art Films

Hey, just wondering if I could be given a starting point for art films to watch. I wont list all that kinda stuff i've watched as I don't have time, but if anyone suggests something I have watched, I'll say.

Thanks :)

The art films (), that changed me and my life (I don't care about phrases like "art films" ;)) :

3. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0168740/combined

6. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1232776/combined

I can go on...

Edit: I think I need to get a better understanding of what art film is.

Okay, after looking at Wikipedia to learn better what art film is:

Ran
My Own Private Idaho
After Hours
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Blue Velvet
Ju Dou
Raise the Red Lantern
The Loss of Sexual Innocence is worth a view. Especially listen to the director's commentary if you can: good stuff.
The Red Violin
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Mulholland Drive
Magnolia
Oldboy
In the Mood for Love
There Will Be Blood (I didn't love it, but there's no denying its greatness)
The Godfather movies are considered art house? Well definately them.

Perhaps if you were more specific in what you mean by "Art Film" ...?

Here's another of hers that I really like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD088nkJlD4&feature=related

She also did some ethnographic documentation as well of dance and martial arts... which as an anthropologist makes me happy.

Oh I like that. Very lovely. She wasn't unattractive, was she? Those Russian girls. The camera liked her, I think. It helps to keep the viewer interested. I would think that she could have had mainstream success as a leading lady. Maybe the Biz didn't see her that way. I suppose she was a counter culture kind of a gal, so perhaps she had no interest in it. Looking at her Wikipedia page, it looks like she was a pretty interesting person. God, dead at 44. And yet here we are watching her on Youtube, her youthful beauty and mystique captured for...well, probably not for all time, but for us here and now anyway. :)

Yeah, she was brilliant and, I agree, she could have excelled in any medium she wanted with her talent. I always thought she was the avant-garde's equivalent of Louise Brooks. (my animated character, Lulu Deren is a homage to her and Brooks. :) )
