How's This for an Editing Laptop?

Sweetie,

I'm sorry you had problems with your IT guy. That's one individual who sounds like he was not skilled in his job. When I say I have spoken to people in IT departments for two corporations, I spoke with people in the departments of fully staffed departments that tend to the needs of hunderds to thousands of computer, smartphone, and tablet users. That's the difference between big businesses and small businesses. These guys have both college degrees with Computer Sciences and years of experience in the field. They are very skilled and knowledgeable. It is not in the same as a small business that under pays and can't get professional IT guys to work for them.

I have my new copy of Windows 8.1 Professional Full Version to overwrite the Windows 10 Home version the laptop comes with. I also just purchased a USB 3 4K Blu-ray burner drive from B&H Photo to burn Blu-ray disks and install new software, including Windows 8.1 Pro Full version.

I never had issues with him. Work did. He was irrelevant to me. You know, like h44 on a film set.

and I deal with and used to work with a computer expert who sets up the systems that manage thousands of computers over multiple university campuses that runs lots of this software. He still defers to my expertise in where he needs specialist knowledge on these matters. Smart generalists do that.

Is there anything you're trying to achieve with this dick swinging?

What's clear: You're going to do what you want to do and I wish you luck with it. I hope your friends advice, which goes against the advice of the majority of PC editors, doesn't send you down the wrong path. You've made it abundantly clear, you don't have the time for that.

Sorry you look at it as a Dick slinging. I am going with the advice of the IT people I know because I work with them every week and we resolve problems together. If I need help, I see them in person. You are on this board with me and there is only so much that you can do with posts as opposed to working side by side with people.

So, don't take it personally and it was not my intention to offend you. Films I make are self funded and I need a day job to pay the bills and to save up to make films. And, I work in two IT departments for two different companies part time. As much as I have college classes in computers, my degree is in Electrical Engineering Technology. I am resolve the issues with printers, I have fixed computer and networking problems as well.

My future in completing my last film is bleak with monthly expenses expected to rise again this year and my wages remain the same as I get less and less benefits.

Once again, sorry if you got offended.

sorry if you got offended.
I'm not taking any offense. I wouldn't want outsiders to read this thread and accept your IT friends advice as correct.

my degree is in Electrical Engineering Technology
I was doing some work with an electrical engineering division last year. They complained that it's getting tougher for people in the industry. I wasn't aware it would also be effecting those across the pond. They recently picked up a govt contract, so things were picking up for them last time I dropped in to say hi. Things can always turn around. I hope it gets better for you.

IndieTalk?
Yes! The IndieTalk advisors. H44 and the gang. (I feel dirty)

IT for my day job means Information Technologies.

H44 may want to try Adobe Premiere Elements over the professional version and set it up for Beginners Mode where it makes decisions for him. There is an expert mode for the advanced editors to do their tasks manually for greater control. It should save H44 time and leave him with less questions for this board.

No, just no.

Well, I followed through and bought this very laptop with a Blu-ray burner drive, Wacom Tablet, and the mentioned software packages. It took nearly two weeks of after work time to get all the software installed with all the updates and hardware device software installed from the proper manufacturers. But, it's working out great and I subscribed to the HitFilm channel on YouTube. Great tutorials on how to use the software, HitFilm Professional 2017.
