3D VFX Website

I'm pretty good with VFX but when it comes to 3D VFX I'm a total noob. I was wondering if anyone knew of any 3D VFX websites similar to the VideoCopilot normal VFX website. I want to find a website that has nice tutorials for doing 3D VFX, like a plane crash for example.

Anyway, I know it's easy to just google this and find out - I already did and found this website (click here) - but I want your guys's recommendations on what sites are actually useful and not scams just trying to get your money.

Thanks in advance.

By 3D VFX I'm assuming you mean Maya, Max, Softimage etc?

Firstly, be warned that this stuff isn't easy - sometimes it's more technical than it is art and there's lots of disciplines involved in creating great CG (computer graphics) - so much so, that large studios tend to have specialists that handle specific areas (particles, dynamics, modeling, rendering, rigging, animation and more).

It is possible to do it all yourself - I do, but then again, I've been working as a 3D generalist for a long time ;)

To get started, you could take a look at 3dbuzz.com - there's a lot of tutorials there and you'll also get an idea of what the different applications available are capable of. Once you've decided what you're gonna learn (3DS Max and Maya are the two most popular packages though not necessarily 'the best'), check out the website of the software developer - you'll normally find a lot of free tutorials there too.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot man i'll check out that site! and Yeah i'm not looking to do really elaborate 3d VFX but really I'm just looking into more basic stuff like matte painting in a different background and adding in some 3d models like helicopters.
