Hi. My mate and I started a film production company. We're trying to flesh out our business plan to show to potential investors. In trying to name our target audience, we've surfed the web for film demographic info, but haven't found much of anything. How have you guys come up with descriptions of your target audiences and is there somewhere to research current film demographics in terms of who goes to see what kinds of films?

Who watches that genre?
Who watches films of and similar to your genre?
Who purchases DVD/Merchandise of that genre?
Which people read the blogs of that genre?
Just a few. Branch out, you'll soon narrow it down, bud.

I agree on starting with Genre. Also, the general tack people take (especially when pitching investors) is "similar" films.
