Project Brief

Flying Moon GmbH is searching for five talented film teams from five countries to document the life and work of young, passionate and inspiring individuals from Australia, Brazil, Germany, South Africa and South Korea. The project will follow these individuals on their journey to World Skills 2013!
But this is more than just a film project! Our aim is to create a unique transmedia documentary experience entitled “Get Ready”. Spanning across several media platforms, the final documentary film will be the result of a collective effort, with its premiere at World Skills International 2013.
During production, your work and the work of your fellow teams will be documented and promoted both locally (via your communication channels) and internationally (via a central communication channel) through an evolving web-series and continual online communication. There is also the potential for the final film to receive national TV exposure in your country! Developed over three workshops, each team will receive expert support and guidance from experienced mentors to help create and produce their projects.
Over 50 years old and represented in 61 countries, World Skills International is the most important voice in recognising, promoting and developing professional skills amongst young, creative individuals.

WHAT WE WANT
We need YOU and YOUR TEAM to make this happen!

WHAT YOU NEED
● You are 18 - 30 years old
● Live in Brazil, Australia, South Africa, South Korea or Germany
● Made at least one short film credited to your role (Director, Producer etc)
● Your work should stand out, be it with a unique visual style, creative use of sound or
an imaginative use of online media. We are looking for new talent!
● Your application must be made as a team of five, consisting of a director, producer,
DoP, sound recordist and online communication manager
● You must all be comfortable with working in both English and the language of the
country you are applying for. The selection interview will take place using Skype and
in English.
● You must hold a valid passport, and be able to travel to Europe in February 2013 and
for the World Skills International 2013 event in July. Submissions deadline: 31st of October 2012
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Research
The research phase will begin as soon as all five teams are selected. Each team will receive a €2,000 research budget and a list of confirmed World Skills competitors for their respective country.
From these lists, you are required to select three possible protagonists whose area of expertise is appealing on a visual level. Ideally at least one of these selected will be a woman. During the research phase you are expected to shoot background footage of all three subjects, and put together short character descriptions / reasons they have been selected.
This can include interesting histories, anecdotes etc. Selection for the final protagonist for each country will take place during the first workshop.

Production
Production runs from February to July 2013. During this time there will be three workshops. Here you will meet the other teams, exchange thoughts, ideas and progress. The workshops are a chance to visualise both your individual work and the final collective piece.
February Berlin. Running parallel to the Berlinale Talent Campus.

April/May Your Country.
July Prior to the World Skills 2013 event in Leipzig.

All travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the organizers.
The first workshop will focus on the collective development of the content, forming the basis for the collaboration on the final film.

The key aspects to be covered by the workshops are:
● Making it happen: Collective development of a documentary
● Where is the money and how to spend it: An overview on funding and budgeting for
international documentaries
● What is “trans” in “media”? History and future of transmedia storytelling
● An elevator can change your life: How to pitch your project
● Better safe than sorry: The legal framework and basic contracts for filmmaking

Further workshop discussions will be announced once the project is underway. The final workshop will focus on the collective completion of the project.
From the first workshop you will be introduced to mentors specialising in different areas. Their support will continue throughout the course of the project via online production meetings.

Shooting and Online Communication
You will be given a budget for shooting your footage and developing your community. The film shooting will begin after the first workshop. We imagine an average of five to seven days of shooting per month over four months. This depends, of course, on the protagonists and your ideas for each shoot.
Your team’s online communication manager must maintain communication with the other teams whilst developing a strong community within your home country in their national language. The online communication should document the progress of your team, the film and the subject via writing, imagery, video clips etc, to promote the project as a whole and individually.

WHO
Peter Dörfler, a successful international director and cameraman, (The Big Eden 2011, Achterbahn 2009 which won Best Documentary at the German Film Critics Award) will be your main point of contact. His supervision, advice and guidance will be available throughout the production phase. Peter is also the executive director of the final collective documentary film.
